Giorgos Stavrakakis is a walker of life and also an observer. I would say that he dares to walk and carry about his observations. The collection of poems entitled “INOMAGIRIA/WINE TAVERNS” are moving sceneries, which live inside the pages of the book and continue to travel into the memory of the reader. His poetry is possessed by obvious lyricism, nevertheless many of his poems are “staccato”, firm, and often result in a lyric crescendo. The poet exposes himself and at the same time has an intense timidity, which is expressed effectively by the use of double meanings, antithesis and metaphors, generally in his poetry. Another special feature of his poetry (writing) is the dance around the focal points of death, of the end, of time, of hurting and of bitterness. I would like to stress his own special relation with language. That is, the material with which the “living” of an experience can be transformed into Art. This particular relationship brings the body and the soul of words in absolute identification. The signifier and the signal? cannot be seen separately. Giorgos Stavrakakis does not use poetic words. He transforms the living language into a poetic language, namely, simple words into poetry.
